Fishing St Petersburg Fishing Charters
St. Petersburg located between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay is the home of Capt. Rob Gorta hosts Fishing St Petersburg Charters. The Gulf of Mexico in this area location makes the fishing in St. Petersburg simply magnificent. Anglers from all over the country and abroad come to St. Petersburg to book fishing charters for the abundant game fish that live here. Its productive flats, mangrove-lined shores, barrier islands, and tributaries hold inshore species of all kinds. The Gulf is at your disposal for inshore, nearshore, and offshore fishing.
The waters of Tampa Bay are the playground of Redfish of all sizes up to 40+ pounds is not unusual! These fish are built to fight which makes it a fish that’s a fun hookup. A tailing Reds are a beautiful sight and one every fisherman loves to see.
You can fish for Reds year-round but August to early fall is best. This period is when they spawn. They congregate in schools of dozens of fish. Reds look for their prey in the flats, near the mangrove shorelines, as well as around barrier islands with strong currents. Capt. Rob knows the areas Reds frequent under all sorts of conditions which ensures you will have a great day of fishing.
Tarpon Fishing is awesome around St. Petersburg. Fishermen from everywhere come here to catch a Silver King, the biggest and most sought-after species of the nation’s inshore waters.
There are two types of Tarpon. There are the residential fish that are available all year and then there are the migratory fish. Migratory tarpon is in the area from May to late July. This migration is considered the peak season. These fish often times weigh more than 200 lbs.
Capt. Rob knows the Silver King well and can make your Tarpon fishing experience one you will never forget. Tarpon can be very picky but Capt. Rob fishes every day and knows what baits and techniques to use when fishing conditions are challenging.
Snook are easily one of the most favorite inshore game fish, both because they’re very smart, fight hard, and are finicky. Snook fishing is open all year, but there are periods when they are “catch and release”. Spring and summer are the best time for fishing for snook that can range up to 50 pounds. The average fish is around 25 pounds, which still provides a lot of fight and excitement.
Spotted trout are the real deal. They are fun to catch, they are beautiful and delicious. And on top of all that, they are plentiful.
You can target them year-round, but the peak months are usually from April to September. Capt. Rob can get you on all sizes of trout and occasionally a Gator Trout that weigh over 7 pounds and are more than 25 inches long. The average trout is in the 2 to 5 lb range.
Seatrout ambushes their prey and they love oyster bars. They are always hungry and because they’re so aggressive they are easy targets.
