Snook

Fishing for snook in the waters around St Petersburg FL is considered one of the most exciting places to fish in the state.  Fishermen love catching snook because of the skill it takes to hook one and the fight there is to land one.  Water temperature largely determines where you find snook.  The common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) is widely sought after because of its fighting style here in Florida. 

 

Snook are voracious predators but that doesn’t mean they are easy to catch.  Fishing for snook can involve a lot of hunting and luck.  Landing a snook is considered a great accomplishment.  Snook are such a highly venerated species, many anglers practice catch-and-release when fishing for them.

The largest snook recorded in Florida waters at this writing is 44 pounds and 3 ounces.  Florida is home to five of these species: common snook, small-scaled fat snook, large-scaled fat snook, tarpon snook, and swordspine snook.
